African Uncensored and Youth for SDGs Kenya, with the support of Hivos, is carrying out a project under the Voices for Just Climate Action (VCA) program under the name: ‘Promoting Climate Voices Through Enhanced Media and Communications’ Engagements’, with the following objectives :

To improve climate change aspects, the needs of communities and experiences in tackling climate change To increase the knowledge and capacity of young journalists and communication experts on climate change communication using a fellowship approach To develop a Facilitate authentic dialogue between Kenyan media, communications and climate stakeholders Enable effective climate communication

The project underlines the important role journalists and media play in informing and communicating with communities through their channels. Part of the project approach is training and fellowship of journalists to deepen climate change storytelling in Kenya.

Who can apply for Youth for SDGs Kenya Fellowship?

The consortium invites journalists and communication experts and enthusiasts, especially creatives, to express an interest in the fellowship program. The fellowship aims to increase the capacity of mainstream and social media journalists and communicative creatives, to communicate climate change effectively and use the space of influence they have to advance public awareness and debate about climate change. This program provides scope for training, coaching and learning by doing to identify the development and transfer of necessary skills and knowledge in climate change communication.

Journalists, freelancers, correspondents or staff working in print, broadcast or online are open to apply. The journalists and communication experts come from all over the country.

How are candidates selected?

The journalists who stand a chance of being considered are those with an interest in capturing challenges faced by citizens as a result of climate change, actions that communities are taking to address the impacts of climate change, and changes that need to take place in our governance to enhance climate change solutions in various areas, such as adapting to and building resilience to the impacts of climate change. The journalists with experience in presenting stories that focus on the intersection of climate change, communication, social, environmental and climate justice in the context of development with a focus on women, youth, the marginalized and minority communities are strongly encouraged.
