Wits-TUB-UNILAG Urban Lab Master Scholarships 2023 for Sub-Saharan African Students

Scholarships are offered to African students for the Wits-TUB-UNILAG Urban Lab PhD Program in Urban Studies.

Application Deadlines:

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is September 30, 2022. The deadline to apply for the Master of Urban Studies (MUS) in the field of Urban Management (UM) is July 31, 2022.

About the award: The Wits-TUB-UNILAG Urban Lab program, supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), aims to provide graduate education in Sub-Saharan urban areas improve Africa. It is one of seven SDG Graduate Schools funded by the DAAD worldwide. The lead partners, the Habitat Unit at the Technische Universität Berlin and the School of Architecture and Planning at the Wits University in Johannesburg and the University of Lagos, are working together to provide an urban-oriented graduate training and capacity building program at Wits University that strives to respond effectively to the challenges and needs of modern urban studies.

Eligibility: This call is open to applicants who are from Sub-Saharan African countries other than:
South Africa. There will be a separate call for South Africans shortly.
For all applicants whose highest degree has not been obtained in South Africa, proof of application for assessment of their degree by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) must be attached to the
scholarship application.

To be taken in (Country): Successful PhD students will be based in the School of Architecture and Planning at Wits University.

Value of the award: The master’s scholarship covers the duration of one academic year.

The scholarship includes:

• Full tuition fee
• Monthly living allowance
• Traveling from home country/place of origin
• Student medical help (12 months)

Selected students must be self-sufficient from February to April 2023 as their living expenses will be paid in May 2023.

They will be responsible for organizing their accommodation in Johannesburg, as well as organizing their trip to Johannesburg, and covering the respective costs. Fees will be refunded during
the first half of the academic year.

Students applying for the scholarship are required to pay their SAQA fees. SAQA fees are non-refundable.
The Wits-TUB-UNILAG reserves the right not to award all or no scholarships.
