About the award: The University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship was established to promote educational opportunities, promote internationalization, and support talented international students enrolling for the first time in elementary, undergraduate, or postgraduate programs at the University of Waikato.

Eligibility: This scholarship is designed to support talented international students enrolling for the first time in undergraduate or postgraduate programs at the University of Waikato. The scholarships are worth up to NZD$20,000 and are awarded to successful applicants who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement.
Selection process:
The scholarships are offered on the basis of academic merit and future potential to become global ambassadors for the University of Waikato. Applications will be shortlisted by the University’s international regional managers and forwarded to the selection panel. The selection panel will consist of the Chair of the Scholarship Committee and the Director – International (or their nominees) and will meet regularly to review applications. The decisions of the selection panel are final and there will be no correspondence after the selection meeting.

Duration of the Scholarship: The Scholarship is only tenable within the year for which it is awarded.
How to apply:
Applications for the Scholarship must be received by the University of Waikato Scholarships Office on the prescribed online form. Applications can be submitted at any time before the start of the study program for which the applicant has submitted an offer. However, it is strongly recommended that applications be submitted no later than six weeks before the start of the applicant’s propaedeutic phase or training. Applications must be submitted along with: an Application to Enroll (ATE) at the University of Waikato and must include a rating scale of your qualifications (this can normally be found on the back of your academic transcripts), OR a conditional or formal offer of Place from the University of Waikato; and a personal statement (maximum 200 words) outlining the following: What are your career goals/aspirations? How will an international teaching experience help you achieve these goals? What additional qualities/skills do you have that would make you an ideal candidate for this scholarship and an ambassador for the University of Waikato?

Important Notes: Successful candidates will receive a scholarship offer valid for 4 weeks. Students must confirm their acceptance of the scholarship by the date requested in the offer letter, otherwise the scholarship will be reassigned to another student. Upon confirmation, the recipient will receive an official scholarship letter to attach to their New Zealand immigration visa application.
