The Ministry of Interior is looking for dedicated, passionate, talented, ethical and highly patriotic individuals to be part of the new project of border enforcement under the Border Management Authority. Applicants holding (a) foreign qualification(s) must also submit the evaluated results of such qualifications as received from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA); applicants who meet the requirements and live in close proximity to the respective ports will be given preference; physical fitness assessment will be conducted at the nearest available facility in the respective province; and applicants must be South African citizens with no previous criminal convictions.
SELECTION:
Training in a public security environment i.e. the military, police or other relevant community police forces is a prerequisite. As these positions require strenuous physical activity, shortlisted candidates will undergo a mandatory physical fitness assessment; as these positions are located at various gateways and border lines within the Republic of South Africa, all placements will be made at the discretion of the Border Management Authority; Shortlisted candidates will undergo a vetting process through the State Security Agency as well as the internal processes for employment fitness checking; and Successful candidates must enter into a performance agreement upon commencement of employment.
ITEM NO 1: SENIOR BORDER SECURITY (TEAM LEADER), (4 POSITIONS)
SALARY LEVEL: A base salary of R261 372 to R307 890 per year (Level 7). In addition, a range of competitive advantages is offered.

REQUIREMENTS: • An undergraduate qualification in a security related field at NQF level 6 as recognized by SAQA • Minimum of 2 years experience in command, planning and execution in a public security environment • Training in a public security environment ie military, police or other Relevant Community Police Forces • Firearms Competence • Experience in Operational Planning, Command and Control and Security Operations • Capability to carry a firearm • Ability to perform strenuous physical activity • Match performance for success, a successful team and a strategic working relationship on • Communication, decision making and knowledge management • Planning and organizing • Quality orientation and safety awareness • Firearms use and security • Adaptability, commitment, creativity and discipline • Empathy, frustration tolerance, impact and innovative • Observing, self-motivated, tact and reliable • A gel Driver’s license • A Military, Police or relevant Community Policing Services training Certificate is required • Will be required to work in shifts, along border segments.
FUNCTIONS: The successful candidate will be responsible for the following specific duties, among others:
To facilitate the general border management and security services at the identified ports of entry and border line • Oversee and supervise effective and efficient border management activities • Attend on-duty and off-duty parades and deploy border guards • Process proactive and responsive complaint handling • Render specialized advice and support at the border • Inspecting registers, forms and automated mainframe systems • Visiting and inspecting temporary cells • Monitoring and checking exhibits/evidence handed over to other agencies • Arranging transfer of arrested illegal foreigners/detainees to the nearest ports of entry or police station for deportations • Provide input on reports to be prepared as required by higher authority • Facilitate the implementation of traffic control measures of goods and people in the identified ports and segments • Provide support for the planned roadblock / checkpoint operations at the port of entry and the navigable areas vulnerability in the boundary line • Carry out vehicular/foot patrols in the outer/inner perimeter areas for inspection purposes • Manage, control and regulate the movement of people and goods • Make logistical arrangements to escort valuable, fragile and perishable cargo to and from vaults, ships, aircraft and other vehicles assigned for such cargo • Monitor and control access /exit at the border, POE and border law enforcement area • Reporting international visitors, travelers and Shoppers to be monitored • Provide support for the operations of the Close Circuit Television (CCTV ) room as and when required • Monitor and control human, financial, physical and i Information Resources • Oversee the placement, training, development, performance, discipline and terminations of personnel • Coordinate and implement effective management/control of state resources • Securing and facilitating information resources and information communication technologies.

FUNCTIONS: The successful candidate will be responsible for the following specific duties, among others:
To conduct operations in the field of general border management and security services at the identified port entrance and border line. Carry out general border management activities and security services to ensure effective and efficient border management. Attend the on- and off-duty parades and be stationed according to the border guard deployment schedule • Process proactive and responsive complaint visits • Reporting on arrested illegal foreigners held in the temporary cells • Secure and monitor exhibits/evidence transferred to others Agencies • Detentions executing illegal foreigners/detainees to be transferred to the nearest ports of entry or police station for further handling • Collecting information for composite reports as required by higher authority • Carrying out checks on the movement of goods and people in the identified ports and segments • Searching of people, baggage and vehicles according to the relevant regulations about the planned road blocks / checkpoints in the port of entry and the sensitive areas in the border line • Carry out border tasks, traffic checkpoints and other law enforcement duties in outer/inner perimeter areas • Reporting on all illegal movements of people and goods • Supervising control from covert positions at or near international borders • Control entry/exit in the identified port of entry and in the border area for law enforcement • Conduct vehicle/foot patrols around the inner perimeter • Monitor and regulate illegal movement of people and goods • Identify and report on international visitors, travelers and shoppers for monitoring purposes • Act as a Mobile Response Team to electronic sensor alarms in remote areas.
