The [email protected] BCN Association supports the European Space Agency on an Announcement of Opportunity (AO), which invites companies to study, design and/or develop and demonstrate space-based solutions with the aim of digitizing supply chains.
Barcelona, July 2022 – In the wake of the severe disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, enterprises have begun planning their supply chain strategies to become more resilient, collaborate and network with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders. Addressing these challenges would lay the foundation for a new era of supply chain management, leveraging space and digital technologies to provide end-to-end visibility, traceability, responsiveness and agility with the potential for digitally transforming the state-of-the-art of chain management. Successful applicants for the Announcement of Opportunity will be offered co-funding and further support for the implementation of their idea with ESA and partner support.
[email protected] BCN is a business and institutional association that represents the most important organizations of the [email protected] district, the innovation district of Barcelona. It gathers large companies, institutions, universities, research centers and a large network of SMEs and start-ups with activities in the [email protected] district, the first innovation district in the world.
Since 2004, [email protected] BCN is the association of the innovative, technological and creative sector of the city of Barcelona. With 219 employees, we are responsible for the consolidation of the [email protected] Neighborhood as a dynamic, transformative and advanced technological space. The [email protected] BCN promotes innovation among their employees and facilitates the integration of entrepreneurial organizations and professionals in the dynamics of [email protected] by facilitating networking and interaction between employees.
As part of this initiative, the [email protected] BCN Association has offered to support solutions focused on drone delivery, digital supply chain and air mobility solutions within the district in close collaboration with their associated companies. In that direction, the [email protected] association plans to support potential businesses with access to such employees. For example, Westfield malls offered to collaborate on pilot demonstrations, liaising with retailers interested in such solutions, and where needed assistance in navigating the regulations associated with testing the given services.
This cooperation is particularly relevant for the [email protected], as it enables the district to consolidate its position as the world’s leading innovation district. Enric Urreta, President of the [email protected] BCN emphasizes the relevance of this collaboration, which “demonstrates the innovative potential of the [email protected] by bringing new opportunities to the neighbourhood”.
In addition, Isabel Sabadí, director of the [email protected] BCN states that “this collaboration is exactly in line with the mission of the association, which aims to work to promote innovation among its members while facilitating the integration of companies and professionals into the dynamics of the neighborhood”.
As set out in ESA’s vision for European space activities, the Agency is stepping up its efforts to accelerate the use of space. Through its ARTES (Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems) program, ESA forges strong links between institutions, industries and companies to harness the potential of space to drive digital services.
The ESA Space Solutions division supports companies in researching and eventually bringing to market innovative space services using satellite Earth observation, satellite communications and/or satellite-derived positioning, navigation and timing.
