Overview of Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship
Each year, the Swiss Confederation awards Government Excellence Scholarships to promote international exchange and research collaboration between Switzerland and more than 180 other countries.
The research grant is available to postdoctoral researchers in any discipline (who have at least a master’s degree) who intend to come to Switzerland to conduct research or further studies at the doctoral or postgraduate level.
The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are for young researchers from abroad who have obtained a master’s degree or PhD.
Research grants are awarded for research or study at all Swiss cantonal universities, colleges and the two federal technical institutes, as well as the four research institutes. Only candidates nominated by an academic mentor at one of these higher education institutions will be considered.

What is the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships application process?
Initially, applicants must apply individually to Swiss universities for Ph.D, Post Doctrol and to the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS).
The candidate must provide research papers with a complete profile.
The candidate must find himself a supervisor from a selected Swiss university.

What are Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship Selection Criteria??
Applications are subject to a preliminary selection by the relevant national authorities and/or the Swiss diplomatic mission. The shortlisted applications are then reviewed by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS), which makes the final decision.
The FCS assesses scholarship applications on three criteria:
Candidate profile Quality of the research project or artistic work Synergies and potential for future research collaboration
The FCS is composed of professors from all Swiss public universities. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic and scientific excellence.
The FCS will announce its decisions about the new exchanges by the end of May at the latest.
