Stellenbosch University DeepMind Postgraduate Scholarships 2023 for African Students

The first DeepMind Postgraduate Scholarships in Africa are coming to Stellenbosch University.

Deadline: August 31, 2022

About the award: The expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning in the African continent is getting a major boost thanks to prestigious scholarships awarded for postgraduate studies in applied mathematics, statistics, electrical and electronic engineering and computer science in Stellenbosch University (SU).

SU is the first African university to receive these grants from DeepMind, a London-based global leader in artificial intelligence research and its application in the real world. DeepMind was founded in London in 2010, and the DeepMind grants are part of a broader initiative by the company to broaden participation in science and support the wider research ecosystem, including in Africa.

The MSc in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence is a one-year structured master’s program at Stellenbosch University, designed for students with strong mathematical and computational backgrounds. It will equip you with the basics of ML and AI, plus a range of advanced techniques and concepts at the forefront of research in these fields.

These scholarships are available to students from across sub-Saharan Africa who wish to undertake research related to machine learning, with recipients selected by the university to begin their courses in 2022. The DeepMind Scholarship program gives talented students from groups that are currently underrepresented in machine learning, including women, the support they need to study at leading universities. Fees are paid in full and recipients receive guidance and support from DeepMind mentors.
