Georgia Hutton will play a big role in the defence
By Grace Hamilton
Bond University women’s seniors will face the University of Queensland in the QAFLW semi-final this Saturday.
During the competition, Bond will challenge the 2022 petty prime ministers to secure their place in the grand final.
After a convincing win in round 16, the team will try to bring their A game despite missing two senior players.
The Bull Sharks have made defense a priority and hope the suffocating pressure they put on the reigning prime ministers will be the key to victory.
LAST TIME MEET THEM
The last time these teams competed against each other was in round seven.
With bad weather being a big factor in play, the game was rough and ended in a tight deficit.
The University of Queensland managed to win Bond with the final result 16-24.
Since the May 14 match, Bond has made huge improvements and is determined to get revenge.
ONE TO WATCH
A stellar performance in round 16 has put Georgia Hutton in the spotlight for the final, and she will become an integral part of the team’s full defense.
Speaking to Hutton, she said the biggest lesson she learned this year was to keep her head up.
“It’s about playing for each other on the field,” she said.
The young star was named Player of the Round against Maroochydore last week and has proven her skills on the wing all season.
Hutton said the result will depend on the team’s defensive performance.
“It was a disappointment at the start of the season,” she says.
“We have changed to focus on defense before attacking.”
IN OTHER TYPES
After a dominant 69-point win last week, the women’s reserve team will try to beat Southport in their semi-finals.
The girls enter this final season with high hopes for a grand finale, having secured the minor premiership.
In the men’s race, both the seniors and reserves hope to take advantage of the BYE round to recover for their round 16 matches.
The two teams will face Ballina next week.
