Job Title: Scottish Student Cycling Wellbeing and Protection Officer

Responsible for: Head of Competitions

Where (location): Various within Scotland

Time investment: 3-6 hours/month. Attendance at all centrally organized cycling championships for the 22-23 season (three planned so far)

Role Duration: Minimum of one year until June 30, 2022. Ability to re-enter for a Development Group role, specifically to succeed as Chair (if the role is available)

Scottish Student Sport (SSS), the student sports organization in Scotland, is looking for an energetic and dedicated individual to act as a Vice-President Volunteer within the Scottish Student Cycling Programme.

The Wellbeing and Protection Officer will have an excellent opportunity to contribute to student cycling in Scotland.

The Welfare and Protection Officer will lead the work and prepare a more inclusive offering for SS Cycling focused focus groups. This role will focus on encouraging sororities to further diversify their membership and promote inclusive opportunities. They will also help clubs ensure they consider the general wellbeing of their students.

The holder of this position will also assume the role of ‘Safeguarding Lead’ in all centrally organized cycling championships under SSS. This is to meet Scottish Cycling’s operational standards for all events from 2023, covering young people (under 18) and vulnerable adults.

Currently this includes the Hill Climb, Time Trial and Criterion Championships. All events will take place between October 2022 and April 2023.

Required skills, qualities and experience

Understanding the barriers to cycling participation and empathy for those involved Proactive, can do attitude Experience with student cycling in Scotland Knowledge of the cycling landscape in Scotland Involvement in representing and fostering student cycling clubs Ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders

Other details

Must have active British Cycling membership or be willing to join Must be willing to attend relevant child welfare and protection courses in sport Take all relevant CPD courses/experience as identified by chairman and SSS staff SSS staff will support in all aspects Driving license desired

The role is a voluntary position, although reasonable expenses are paid.

The first appointment is for 1 year with the intention that the successful candidate is interested in taking on the role of Chairman in 2021/22 (if the role is vacant)
