The CSR-Education Department, TUCN implements the National Merit Scholarship Program in accordance with the approved procedure. The National Merit Scholarship Award scheme is educational aid for undergraduate students in recognized universities in Nigeria. All enrolled undergraduate regular students in their first or second year of study in recognized Nigerian universities are eligible to apply for the scholarship tests. All candidates must provide their admission number and other relevant information from their universities in order to be considered for the award. No scholarship will be awarded to students on part-time/sandwich programs. The award is made to only those who do not have comparable industry scholarships. The award is based on the result of a selection test to be administered by a National Examination Authority (WAEC or its equivalent). The award is in effect for the current session of the award but renewable for the remainder of the student program. The award is renewable only on the presentation of academic achievement of a CGPA of not less than 2.5 on a 5-point scale or equivalent (e.g. 50% of a 4- or 7-point scale), obtained in the previous academic session. All winners will open an account in a Nigerian bank in their own name through which the scholarship payments will be made. No winner will be paid in cash.

All scholarships will be awarded on a merit selection basis after the intended beneficiary has presented themselves, participated in and passed the selection tests at the designated centers across the country. The application process is online. A national examination body administers, conducts and assesses the selection exam and provides the test results in a secure environment. Selection tests are conducted annually for that current academic session. The student verification exercise is conducted from time to time for students on the regulation.
