Both new production courses begin at ATU in September. They have been developed in consultation with the industry.
Cobotics Skillnet and Atlantic Technological University (ATU) have launched two new courses addressing the skills Irish manufacturing companies need to transition from manual to automated processes.
Cobotics Skill Net is a business support network for companies in the robotics and automation technology sector in Ireland. It is part of the government agency Skillnet Ireland, which supports companies across the country in upskilling their employees.
The first of the two new courses from ATU and Cobotics Skillnet is a Higher Diploma in Engineering in Automation and Digital Manufacturing. This course is designed for employees who want to hone or cross-skill their skills in automation, robotics and digital manufacturing. The one-year program is designed to provide students with knowledge of robotic automation, advanced manufacturing, and vision systems.
According to Dermot O’Neill, Cobotics Skillnet, the diploma is “a unique program in this country because it gives individuals the opportunity to transition into the advanced manufacturing and robotics sector.”
“This addresses the immediate need to develop talent in-house, as indicated by 16 Irish production companies involved in the design and development of the programmes,” added O’Neill.
The second program is a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Automation, Robotics and Digital Manufacturing. It is intended for workers who wish to continue their progress in this field of advanced manufacturing. Both new programs will start in September.
Tracey Donnery, Director of Policy and Communications, Skillnet Ireland, said the new accredited courses “would help companies implement their automation strategies, enabling them to remain competitive on the global stage.”
Skillnet Ireland also recently collaborated with TU Dublin on a new manufacturing course for the pharmaceutical sector. It teaches participants the basics of powder handling using a custom VR platform.
