a PhD intern is needed for a 6-month qualitative research study at MARI in Nairobi, Kenya.

MARI is a unique research center that brings together fundamental research, product innovation, engineering and design to develop future technologies.

Our goal is to learn, develop and implement advanced cloud and AI technologies that not only target key opportunities in Africa and help solve local problems at scale, but also contribute to a more productive future of work, health and society worldwide.

Responsibilities:

Work on a project related to one of MARI’s core areas: sustainability, recommendation systems, AI justice.

Qualifications for Microsoft Africa Research Institute program:

Desired Qualifications:

Winner Microsoft PhD Fellowship. Currently pursuing a PhD in computer science. Experience in contributing to research communities and/or endeavours, including publishing papers (listed as author) at conferences such as CHI, CSCW Must be able to take initiative, but also follow a research plan and work well as part of a team. Excellent critical thinking and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Relevant work experience, including experience in industry or as a researcher in a laboratory. Publication record Ability to design and execute a research agenda.
