We are delighted to confirm the arrangements for the exciting second round of our mentorship program in partnership with the University of Oxford Mathematical Institute. This program aims to support and encourage a small cohort of promising pre-PhD students, based in sub-Saharan Africa, who hope to pursue PhDs in mathematical sciences.

have obtained a BA or BSc degree in mathematical sciences; demonstrate high academic excellence and a commitment to improvement; motivated for further study.

What is the benefit of the Mfano Africa Oxford Virtual Mentorship program?

The part-time online program includes an 8-week mini-project, to be carried out in July/August 2022. Based on mutual research interests, the successful students will be matched with a mentor at the University of Oxford to work on a mini-project during a series of 1:1 online meetings to build research experience. Students will also be directed to helpful pre-recorded lectures from recent courses at the Mathematical Institute and receive tailored career development training and guidance on how to make PhD applications, plus networking events. A stipend of £230 (GBP) will be available to successful students to cover any associated costs for internet data, printing and stationery, etc.
