As for the international research training program, it is the Australian Commonwealth Government Scholarship facility that supports international higher research applicants. This scheme is administered by the individual universities on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Skills & Employment. As for the Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarship (MQRES) program, it is a scholarship program that works with the function of supporting outstanding research students enrolled in the field of research called research priority areas aligned with the strategic research framework of the university 2015 to 2024 Leading research with world-changing impact and a broader university. Those applicants who apply for iRTP will automatically be considered for the opportunity of the University-funded International Macquarie Research Excellence Scholarship Program (iMQRES) in the same application round.

It is a public research university in Sydney, Australia. Founded in 1964 by the Government of New South Wales, Macquarie University was the 3rd university in the Sydney metropolitan area.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must demonstrate eligibility as listed under:

The applicants must be citizens of a country other than New Zealand and Australia. They are not allowed to be the permanent resident of Australia. They must plan to pursue a Master of Research Year 2 or PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) in S1 2023 (no deferment is possible). The applicants must have the intention to reside in Sydney, Australia during their study period. They must comply with the HDR English Language Requirement: until the application deadline. The applicants must also meet the admission criteria for entry into the Master of Research Year 2 (MRes Y2) or PhD for commencement in S1 2023. Applicants must be in possession of a valid visa that will allow them to commence their studies in S1 2023. They must also have confirmation of supervision from an eligible researcher at Macquarie University (which is vital and mandatory for FMHHS and desirable for other faculties as well).

Financial cover

The chosen students will receive financial coverage for Macquarie University scholarships 2023.

The successful candidates of PhD iRTP will receive:

Reimbursement of tuition fees that are available for a maximum of 3 years. Stipend for 3 years (current rate is $28,854 per year). Student Health Coverage – Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) at Medibank for the required period of student visa. The GRA makes the arrangement of single, family, couple or single parent, whichever applies to the chosen recipient. Travel allowance (applies to local transport OPAL Card).

The successful candidates from iMQRES will receive:

Reimbursement of tuition fees provided for a maximum of 3 years. Stipend for 3 years (current rate is $28,854 per year). Student Health Coverage – Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) at Medibank for the required period of student visa. The GRA makes the arrangement of single, family, couple or single parent, whichever applies to the chosen recipient.

Note: The applicants, who do not qualify for the eligibility criteria for the PhD (PhD) program, may be counter-offered for entry into the MRes Year 2 with a preliminary three-year doctoral program (PhD). If ranked competitively for the award (scholarship), the applicants may also be awarded a scholarship to cover their MRes Year 2 portion of the program. Remember that the MRes Year 2 scholarships will not carry OSHC.
