The research institute ICMAB awards a maximum of four PhD Program Severo Ochoa Fellowships for the academic year 2018-2019. Scholarships are available for international applicants.
ICMAB-CSIC is an internationally renowned public research institute in the field of advanced functional materials, integrated into the National Research Council of Spain (CSIC). The mission of ICMAB is to generate new knowledge in the field of materials science through excellent scientific research that is useful to society and industry.
Guest lecture/university:
The ICMAB is a research institute of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), Spain’s largest public research organization focusing on basic and applied research. More than three decades old, the ICMAB retains its initial enthusiasm for materials research, making it a very attractive place to work on advanced materials for young talented researchers.

Field of study:
The Strategic Research Program comprises five mission-oriented research lines to tackle three major societal challenges: clean and safe energy, smart and sustainable electronics and smart nanomedicine. The strategic lines of research are:
1/ Energy storage and conversion
2/ Superconductors for power applications
3/ Oxide electronics
4/ Molecular electronics
5/ Multifunctional, nanostructured biomaterials
Scholarship price:
The Severo Ochoa Prize provides 4 M€ over 2016-2019 to implement ICMAB’s research and human resources programs.
Nationalities:
Scholarships are available for international applicants. Up to four scholarships are available. A scholarship can be taken in Spain.
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates must be ready to participate in an official doctoral program (according to Spanish law) in September 2018. By this time, they must have obtained a university degree and a master’s degree; or must hold an official university qualification from a country of the European Higher Education Area with at least 300 ECTS of official university studies, of which at least 60 are at master’s level. Candidates must have a strong commitment to scientific research and an excellent academic record. Candidates must have a good working knowledge of English.
