At the Farnborough Air Show today, a company owned by Hyundai heavenly unveiled its first eVTOL (Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) vehicle cabin concept.
The eVTOL vehicle will be used commercially in the United States from 2028 and shortly thereafter in the EU and the UK. cab concept with five seats. It includes a lightweight interior, which is made of forged carbon fiber.
Folding seat consoles mimic the center consoles of cars and provide a charging station and storage compartment for personal items. Grab handles built into the cab doors and backrests aid in getting in and out. A combination of lighting — including overhead lights inspired by car sunroofs — adapts to different stages of flight to mimic a “light therapy” effect, the company claims.
With sustainability as a priority, the cabin concept includes materials such as sustainable vegetable leather, recycled plastic fabric and responsibly sourced wood. The seat frame also uses excess raw materials from the airframe manufacturing process.
“The Supernal eVTOL vehicle is based on the competence of the Hyundai Motor Group and the skills of experienced car designers, which allowed us to develop a new air mobility concept that is not only safe and rational, but also highly emotional,” says Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Hyundai Motor Group.
“For Advanced Air Mobility to become a widespread mode of transportation, every detail – from the passenger experience to regulation and infrastructure – must be addressed from the outset and work closely together,” added Jaiwon Shin, President of Hyundai Motor Group and CEO of Supernal .
Complementing Supernal’s battery-powered eVTOL vehicle designed for inner-city passenger travel, the company’s Korea-based division is developing a hydrogen-powered medium-sized vehicle for regional – city-to-city – freight and passenger travel.
Supernal’s eVTOL vehicle cabin concept is on display at the Farnborough International Airshow (Exhibit Hall 1, Booth 1307).
