FORENSIC ACCOUNTING AND FRAUD INVESTIGATION

ABOUT FORENSIC ACCOUNTING AND FRAUD INVESTIGATION

Forensic accounting and fraud investigation are different but related. Forensic accounting work is done by accountants pending lawsuits and can include fraud investigation, valuation, bankruptcy, and a host of other professional services. Fraud investigations can be conducted by both accountants and non-accountants and only deal with anti-fraud cases and often help to prevent and deter fraud.

Fraud investigations generally fall under the category of forensic accounting, as most investigations, investigations, and reports related to fraud are conducted “with a view to litigation”. In other words, Fraud examiners are taught to conduct their investigations on the assumption that the case could end in a lawsuit.
