Footy Marathon raises over £7,000 for British-Ukrainian aid

An annual football marathon held on Saturday 25 June 2022 has raised more than £7,000 for British-Ukrainian aid.

More than 80 people took part in the event, which was held at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground in Royal Wootton Bassett, where six teams played nine hours of consecutive 15-minute and seven-aside matches. The event was sponsored by a full-service creative agency from Swindon GEL Studios.

Despite each team trying their very best, the champions of the day were the yellow team that played fantastically the entire time. They were lucky enough to take home the coveted 2022 Footy Marathon trophy.

The £7,000 raised from the Footy Marathon will be donated to British-Ukrainian Aid, which provides food and essential medical supplies to children and adults affected by war and conflict.

Andrew Clifton, founder of the Footy Marathon, says: “The Football Marathon has once again shown what can be achieved when we all come together as one team.

“I am so proud to get this event back post-COVID and have to say a huge thank you personally GEL Studios for sponsoring and running the event.

“I would also like to thank the teams that participated in the day and those who donated so generously”.

Managing Director of GEL Studios, Graeme Leighfield added: “At GEL Studios it is all about making a positive impact and are very excited to sponsor such a good cause.”

The sponsorship arrives after donating a special website Swindon Sisters Alliance a Community Interest Company based in Swindon Town Centre. They help families recover from domestic violence and rebuild their lives through vacations and days out.
