Estonian National Scholarship for Non-EU Students

Estonia has become an attractive study destination for students abroad due to budget-friendly and high-quality education. The Estonian government and universities have set up several scholarships to support international students interested in studying in Estonia.

Objective of the Estonian National Scholarship

Estonian National Scholarship supports foreign students in their studies at Estonian higher education institutions. The scholarship can be applied for by foreign students who wish to study at an institution of higher education in formal training or as an exchange student. The scholarship is administered by the Education and Youth Council. Estonian National Scholarship can be applied for for bachelor’s, master’s and PhD.

What are the benefits of the Estonian National Scholarship?

The scholarship for bachelor and master studies is 350 euros per month. Other costs are not covered by Estonian National Scholarship.

The rate of the doctoral grant is 660 euros per month.

For undergraduate studies, this scholarship can only be applied for in fields related to Estonian language and culture.

The scholarship supports masters studies in all fields.

Estonian National Scholarship supports doctoral studies in all fields.

Applications are accepted from students from countries whose citizenship is in one of the countries listed in the scholarship guide in Appendix 1.

What is the duration of the Estonian National Scholarship?

Exchange students will be awarded a scholarship during the period of study in Estonia according to the dates approved by the host higher education institution. The grant can be applied for for a maximum of ten months. The scholarship is paid for exchange studies of at least 30 days.

Degree students will be awarded a scholarship for 12 months of the year, except for the last nominal academic year, when the scholarship is paid for 10 months. The scholarship is awarded for a maximum of 12 months at a time. The scholarship is paid to the host higher education institution, which ensures that the scholarship is returned to the scholarship recipient.

What is the Estonian National Scholarship Application Process?

You must submit the following documents through the online application system.

Application form and motivation letter via the online application system (please register to start the application).

Copy of passport or ID card.

A copy of the confirmation letter from the higher education institution regarding admission.

Applications are reviewed and decisions on grant awarding are made in accordance with the provisions of the Scholarship Guidelines and Rules of Procedure.

Applications that are not fully completed, are not prepared as desired, or contain incorrect information or are submitted late will not be assessed.

Applications that are not accompanied by confirmation of admission to an Estonian higher education institution by the application deadline will not be considered.

What are deadlines?

The application period is August 1 – September 1. The electronic submission window closes automatically on September 1.
