Digital Innovations for Business Resilience in the East African Community, a program under the [email protected] project aims to support young innovators at universities in the East African Community in developing and implementing digital innovations for business resilience in times of Covid-19.
Digital Skills for an Innovative East African Industry ([email protected]) is a project within the framework of technical development cooperation between the EAC and Germany. Digital Innovation for Business Resilience in the EAC is a program under [email protected] project.
What kind of scholarship is this?
Entrepreneurship
University students and recent graduates (graduation is not more than 1 year ago) From an East African university 18 – 35 years old Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply Fluent in English Have an idea for a digital innovation or be in an early stage stage of the implementation of their innovationTeam of at least 2 people
How are candidates selected?
After an online application phase, selected participants will complete an online Ideathon in February 2022 to refine their ideas.
Based on the Ideathon, max. per country of the EAC, 10 teams will be selected for a physical 5-day bootcamp training that will take place in each country in March 2022. Evaluation criteria for participation in the bootcamp are:
Must-have problem: how urgent and important is the identified problem? Innovative solution: how desirable, innovative and effective is the solution? Team: Does the team have the skills and zeal to carry out the idea? Viability: Is the business model scalable and has a viable unit economy? Technology: Is the idea technology-based or implemented by digital means?
The [email protected] bootcamp will conclude with National Pitch-Events in March 2022, providing a relevant opportunity to connect universities and industry.
The winners from each country will then compete in the online East Africa Grand Final in April 2022. During the Grand Final, five winners will be selected by an expert jury. The $10,000 will be split among the five winners based on the winners’ stage, needs and potential. The decision is made by an expert jury, including investors.
