The African Scientific, Research and Innovation Council (ASRIC) and the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes (UEMF) are offering 10 scholarships to African students to conduct their doctoral research at the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes (UEMF), Morocco. The duration of the study and that of the scholarship is three years.

About the award: The ASRIC is mandated to implement the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA-2024) and to promote scientific research and innovation to address the challenges of Africa’s socio-economic development. It also mobilizes African research excellence and provides a platform for dialogue among African scientists and serves as a voice of the scientific community in building and supporting continental research and innovation nexus, including building the required technical capabilities.
On the other hand, the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes (UEMF) was founded in November 2012 and labeled by the Union for the Mediterranean (a union of 43 countries). UEMF is a university with a regional character and is located in the iconic city of Fes, which is home to one of the oldest functioning universities in the world, “Al Karaouiyine”.
The university was founded with the aim of promoting the values of leadership, entrepreneurship, innovation and solidarity, to promote the UEMF is a growing knowledge center in higher education and research with more than one and a half thousand students, 24% of which are scholarship recipients. Meanwhile, international partnership agreements signed in 2018 with Belgian, French, German, Moroccan and Spanish higher education institutions promise new opportunities for academic exchange.
Considering the comparative advantage and the common mandate of ASRIC and UEMF to “build Africa’s technical competences”, the two institutions decided to establish a long-term scientific cooperation and from then on, the UEMF offered scholarships for African PhD students to do studies and research work at UEMF.
Field(s) of Study: The candidate MUST be ready to undertake research in the following areas:
a. Artificial intelligence; b. additive manufacturing; c. Green hydrogen and Power-to-X; d. batteries; e. sensors.

Must be a national of that of the African Union Member State; Applicants must be less than 35 years old by the closing date of this call; Must have a master’s degree (in science or engineering), diploma or engineering degree or other equivalent degree (Baccalaureate + 5); and The candidate must demonstrate remarkable ability and dedication along with experiences in conducting research in the selected field.

Value and duration of the prize: the scholarship includes; tuition of approximately $9,000, accommodation, one return annual ticket from your home country with a maximum contribution of $1,000 during the summer vacation, and a stipend of $1,000 per month for 11 months per year.
