About the award: Launched in 2002, the Collaborative PhD Program (CPP) in Economics aims to strengthen teaching and research capacity in Sub-Saharan Africa, increase the pool of potential researchers and policy analysts, and gradually build training and retaining African scientists in Africa, leading to an increase in capacity across the continent. CPP aims to increase the output of professionals familiar with – and specialists in – African issues, leading to the possible emergence of different theories and African solutions to these problems. CPP integrates theory, tools and African applications in academic education, so that the theory is firmly anchored on the empirical side.
