Every year, the University of Melbourne, Australia awards The Melbourne International Research Scholarship (MIRS) for international students to study for Masters and PhD.

About Scholarship: The Melbourne Research Scholarship (MRS) was established by the University of Melbourne and is awarded to high-achieving domestic and international research students. The university awards more than 300 scholarships per year to international students.

As of 2016, the Melbourne International Research Scholarship (MIRS) is part of the Melbourne Research Scholarship program.

Type: Master, PhD, Research

Eligibility: To be eligible for the Melbourne Research Scholarship, you must:

have applied for and meet the entry requirements for a Masters or PhD with a research degree at the University of Melbourne, or are currently enrolled in a research degree at the University of Melbourne and have at least 12 months (full-time equivalent) of candidacy left, and

Selection Criteria: Melbourne Research Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit. Eligible applicants will be scored and ranked based on their academic achievement of their last completed degree and their research potential in their field. Factors such as relevant professional experience, referenced publications, specialist medical qualifications or original music composition may be taken into account.

Number of Scholarships: The university awards about 600 scholarships per year.

Scholarship Value: 100% Fee Waiver and Up to $110,000 in stipend

Duration of Scholarship: The duration of the Melbourne Research Scholarship is two years for students pursuing a Masters by Research Degree and up to 4 years for students pursuing a PhD by Research Degree.

How to apply:

If you are a new student and you have applied for a graduate research course by the application closing date for that course, you will automatically be eligible for the Graduate Research Scholarships. Within ten working days after submitting your course application, you will receive a notification that a grant application has been added to your file.

If you have accepted an offer for a graduate research course and have postponed the start in order to qualify for a scholarship, you must online application form no later than October 31 to be eligible for a scholarship in the following year. Within ten working days of submitting the online form, you will receive a notification that a grant application has been added to your file.

If you are currently enrolled in a graduate research course for which you are seeking a scholarship, you must have a: online application form no later than October 31 to be eligible for a scholarship in the following year. Within ten working days of submitting the online form, you will receive a notification that a grant application has been added to your file.
