Doctoral and Research Masters Scholarships consist of the following components for the duration of the scholarship.
A tuition waiver For students studying on campus in New Zealand, or with an approved distance study in New Zealand, a living allowance paid in equal monthly installments for the term of the Scholarship. Funded by the University of Otago For doctoral students not otherwise provided by scholarships in this scheme. The current value of this scholarship is $28,600 per year.
Eligibility Criteria
Doctoral and Masters scholarships are awarded on the basis of:
Applicant’s academic record Proof of Aptitude Applicant’s potential for or record of research. The advice and/or ranking of the relevant department head. International candidates studying for professional doctorates are eligible to apply, but if a scholarship is awarded, tuition waiver will be granted. In the case of doctoral scholarship applicants, the confirmation of the scholarship is subject to the approval of their application for admission to the relevant doctoral program and completion of the enrollment process. In the case of masters scholarship applicants, the confirmation of the scholarship is subject to the approval of their application for enrollment as a masters candidate and the completion of the enrollment process. A doctoral or master’s scholarship can be awarded on a full-time or part-time basis. Part-time appointment is only granted in cases where full-time study is practically not possible. During the duration of the scholarship, the candidate must conduct research in Dunedin or at the University of Otago, Christchurch or University of Otago, Wellington. Duration of a PhD scholarship is for three full-time years. The duration of a master’s scholarship is for one full-time year.
